Rear running light

TERRY MORISI

Dear group, was caught in the middle of a 3600 mile trip on my 96’ Merlot 900 to have the running light quit on me. Luckily all else, including the brake light, work fine. Ground is good, may be the ignition switch. Has anyone seen this before?
Cheers

Terry, I've heard of an issue with the harness being nipped inside the fairing.  There isn't much free play and if the handlebars are turned too far it can pull wires. Just a thought.

When this happened to me it was a short in that bundle of wires coming off
the ignition switch that's notorious for being bundled too tight and for
chafing when the forks are turned.

Thank you for your response. Coincidently, it was that bundle! But it was due to corrosion, probably from all the rain I’ve ridden in over the years. Soaked it with CRC, wire brushed it and good to go. Traced all applicable wires/connectors from back to front until I found it. Thank God it wasn’t the ignition switch $$$$!  Unfortunately, had to remove the right side fairing and all wire ties. Worth the effort. Ride safe all!
Cheers
