Hi,

Congrats on the new wheels! Your in for a treat. Start with the files
section. Which should provide you with some important insight on the beast.
Theres a few things you should become aware of asap. First the fact that
these bikes are quite top heavy. Which means use extreme caution at speeds
under about 5mph. Second is the sprag clutch. Which demands a top notch
condition battery and connections at all times. Or you run the risk of
busting the sprag. At least on the later models like yours its not a case
splitting issue to replace should it cut loose.

Check out the files and get back with us if you have any questions.

Enjoy,

Welcome and congratulations. Samuel has given good advice. Very few people have NOT dropped their Trophy in a parking lot. Once it starts to go over, there's no stopping it. You can let it down somewhat gently if you're lucky and quick. The important thing to keeping it upright at low parking lot speed is to not even touch the front brake. In fact, riding the rear brake while maneuvering at very low speed is of great benefit.

The EARLY 900's had a removable cover to access the sprag clutch, but the newer ones do require splitting the case to repair. Not sure about the 1200's. A fully charged battery is crucial, as is checking/cleaning/tightening all the grounds and making sure the Temperature Warning Light Ground Wire TSB is done. The other things that make a very worthwhile improvement are adding a second ground cable from the battery to the chassis ground point under the seat and adding the coil relay mod.

 Cheers,
 Glenn

Re: New to me 2001 Trophy 1200

I'm glad you forwarded that Steve,  I couldn't find a link to it.
@kfor0232:
You mentioned that you want to get yours on the road.
- Is it running?    - If no, how long since it's been used regularly?- What color is it?- What is the date code on the tires? (look for a raised oval with inset numbers that indicate the year and week) I had the original front-tire on my bike when I bought it with 7K miles and managed to nurse it to tread-wear completion.  That might not be a good idea if you see any evidence of deterioration, though.  More than 3 years-old is generally considered iffy.- Have you gotten an AutoCheck rundown on it to find out it's history?- Who was the prior owner?  This can make a big difference to you.  If the prior was a member of this list, that's a good thing.  If not, then that's okay.  You can bring her back. (I did with my 2002 1200)- How many miles?  Note that low miles might indicate that there are rubber bits that will soon need attention.  High miles might or might not indicate the same.  Usually a bike with more miles has seen a fair amount of maintenence.  Mine had 7K miles on a 12-year-old bike when I got it and needed a going-over to replace fork seals, carb seals, de-rust the gas tank (I'm certain it had been parked outside regularly), etc.
Mine now has 18K miles and I'm going to ride it once more before taking it down for a valve clearance service, oil change, 2-year coolant change, and other regular service.  While I'm in there, I'm going to check on the timing chain stretch.
There is also a Triumph service manual that can be found online.  It's in the archives of this list from March or April, 2013, but I don't think I have it in my shortcuts.
There is a Wiki for our Trophies at: http://triumph-trophy.wikia.com/wiki/Triumph_Trophy_Wiki  As with all wikis, it's a work in-progress, but several of us have contributed and added valuable content.
