Crashed bike - value?

Triumph Trophy mailing list
I hit a semi nearly a year ago with my 2001 BBBB.
The side fairings are rashed.  The side panniers are rashed. The front cockpit is in bad shape. The fuel tank has a dent now.
The engine runs, no problems, and the frame seems to be straight and the forks as well. The top box is untouched,
Thoughts?
There's no insurance claim to process on this.
Fix or sell for salvage?  If sell, what's it worth?

Re: Crashed bike - value?

IVOR COLLINS
Hi Russell

It depends on a few things-

Mileage
How attached to it you are
How much you can do yourself

Mine was much worse with bent forks, front rim and rear frame too but it was only 19K miles from new and by sourcing second hand forks and panels the rest was repairable. It's no concourse winner but neither would you know it had been under the Armco and with it being such a joy to ride, it was worth every minute and at least it's not depreciating in the years I don't get to ride it enough.

Will you settle for it being less than showroom condition?

Regards

IMHO the Top Box and rack are worth way more off the bike separately
than on it if you sell it for salvage. Are you thinking of parting it
out or just selling it outright. Parting it out would maximize your $
but in Phoenix heat you'd better have an air conditioned work shop! It's
bad enough here in Florida! :-) The windscreen might also be an easy
sell if it's still in good condition.

Strip it down and make a naked Trophy out of it then sell it as a running bike or keep it. Search the web for examples, there are some nice ones out there. Part out the good bits you don't use. You could minimize your loss this way.

Thanks all.
Yes, the top box and windscreen can bring some $$ as well as some other bits that are in order.
A naked running bike would sell for a good dollar moreso than the rashed bike.
Thanks for the advice!

Re: Crashed bike - value?

Hi Rusty, I turned a Trophy into a 1200 Trident. It looks real nice. The hardest part was finding a headlight and the brackets to hold it. You'll need a big single headlight, there is a lot of space in there behind the bulb and it gets filled up with wiring and connectors. I tried to find the Thunderbird gauges, but they were just too expensive on Ebay so I used the gauges I had that go on a '95 Trophy and a Trident. The ECU will have to be relocated under the seat. In order to do that I got a wiring harness that goes to a Daytona, Sprint or '95 Trophy. The 900 and 1200 engines use the same harness. The 1200 had the oil cooler exposed in front of the headers. I shined up the headers and relocated the oil cooler under the seat. It was a lot of work but worth it since I'm going to keep the bike. Greg Andrews
