Bike Lift

Triumph Trophy mailing list

I'm thinking about getting a bike lift (UK based)
What do people recommend? Make, capacity etc?
I want a full size lift, not just an engine lift. Also curious to know about supporting the bike. Do paddock stands fit a Trophy? I have no idea on this. Hence the question.

Handlebar bra something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CANYON-DANCER-HANDLE-BAR-HARNESS-MOTORCYCLE-TIE-DOWN-STRAPS-TRAILER-SCOOTER-/251007172687?var=&hash=item3a7131804f:m:mtATmpVebOrnwcoqaZzVv4Q

My front straps are actually a continuation of the handlebar Bra, rather than seperate items as shown above!when I did the wheels, I put the bike on the ramp, then raised it on the paddock stands, strapped it down, then raised it so that I could remove both wheels at the same time. I also removed the forks, which was the reason for the headstock paddock stand, rather than a fork end paddock stand.
I don't remember the prices being as high as the items above... but happy hunting, may find better prices...

I can't reach mine at the moment so I can't measure it for you, but if you stuff a vernier caliper up the headstock tube you should be able to work out the correct size... (Note, I seem to recall that there is a slight tper and possibly a weld line, down the inside of the tube!)

Re: Bike Lift

Triumph Trophy mailing list
Hi Ken,

I have the Machine Mart Bike Lift (Clarke CML3) Hydraulic.

It's easy to use but a bit nerve wracking the first time you load the Trophy on to it and then put it on the Centre Stand.
I use a scissor jack under the Sump to raise the front of the Bike if I'm working on the Front End and the wheel has to come out, otherwise the Front wheel Clamp holds everything stable.
It has Safety Pins  to lock the mechanism at height and it doesn't lose pressure overnight.
I use the Tie-down points for extra security

I ordered mine via the internet and got a discount for doing so.... the delivery driver even helped getting the box into the Garage.
After that it's a hefty task unpacking, assembling and moving it into position etc but once it's set-up it very stable.

After I've finished using it for Major servicings etc I partially dis-assemble it and store it on it's side edge against the garage wall

 Cheers,

Quick reminder,  Check your screen height / ceiling height when using a lift... My Bike goes up between two rafters,, otherwise the Garage would not be tall enough

Re: Bike Lift

Hi Ken,

This is a bit out of the box. But I use a Hoyer rolling overhead boom lift
designed for use on the handicapped. Which can usually be found on the used
market for a song. I picked up a chromed model for $25 at a local thrift.
It sees a fair amount of use. Its good for pulling auto heads, etc. And
even comes in handy on the riding mower. I've only had to raise one end of
either the bike or mower during servicing. Which is well within the 450lb
rating of the boom. Thankfully the Trophy has been quite reliable and
rarely requires service. Nevertheless, the Hoyer is a real asset to have
hanging around.

Best,
